Why we love Poland

Poland Basics

Poland is well known for its welcoming people, the allure of its hidden capital, the picturesque Baltic coastline, and its delicious, hearty cuisine. This dynamic country combines a rich cultural heritage with extraordinary landscapes, making it an enticing destination for travelers.

Facts

Poland, situated in Central Europe, is a nation known for its rich history and special culture. With a population of around 38 million, Poland uses the Polish złoty as its currency, not the euro. Its official capital its Warsaw, but the secret one is Krakaw. Poland experiences a temperate climate, featuring warm summers and cold winters. One-third of the country is covered by forests, offering a haven for nature lovers. Additionally, Poland is famous for its hearty traditional cuisine and warm hospitality.

Citys

As already mentioned, the capital is Warsaw.  The historic center was almost completely destroyed during the war but was also rebuilt, which is why it is worth taking a walk there. Kraków, often referred to as Poland’s secret capital, is considered the most beautiful city in the country. It served as the actual capital until the 17th century. Remarkably spared from destruction during World War II, Kraków retains its historical charm and beauty. The Old Town is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In addition to the “two capitals”, Poland also has cities by the sea, for example, Danzing in the north, a city whose history stretches far back into the Middle Ages, Maritime history in particular has shaped the city over the years and can be found in many corners. Also located in the north of the country is the Marienburg Castle. Although it is not a city itself, it is the largest brick fortress still standing in the whole of Europe. A trip there is well worthwhile.

Nature

Poland is home to 23 national parks, making it one of the countries with the most protected areas in Europe. As already mentioned Forests cover a third of the entire country and make it green.  The Slowinski National Park is famous for its 40-meter-high dunes, like real sand dunes in eastern Europe! The Masurian region, known as the “land of a thousand lakes,” features numerous lakes and castles, making it a perfect combination to visit the countryside and nature together with historical sites.  The High Tatras, the smallest high mountain range in the world, offer spectacular hiking opportunities, with highlights such as the Valley of Five Lakes. Poland is a beautiful country and not only the cities but also nature should be visited.
