Using your spring break to go to Europe is a great idea. The continent  awakes with blooming nature, mild temperatures and less people than during summer. Besides the known citys like Rome, Vienna, or Barcelona, Europe has a few hidden gems wich are also perfect for a spring trip.

It doesn’t matter if you are more of a sommer or a winter person. European spring offers from cold to warm, from snow to sun, everything you are looking for.

Gdańsk, Poland: Spring trip

Boots in Gdańsk

In terms of weather, Gdansk is probably at its most mixed in spring. In March temperatures can still be at the freezing point even snow is a possibility. While in May the sun found its way through, days are getting longer and the spring blooms starts. So a spring trip to the polish coast is rather something for people who can’t stand the heat and feel more comfortable at slightly lower temperatures.

Ljubljana, Slovenia

Ljubljanica River and the area around.

Ljubljana is maybe one of the least known capital citys in Europe. Even though Slovenia is becoming a more popular destination in the last years, during springtime it is still not crowded. The city itself is small. The narrow streets of the old town can get quite packed in summer. But in spring the restaurants and cafes lined up at the Ljubljanica River have always a free table to sit down and be amazed by the old houses and the blooming spring around you.

Alsace- Area, France

Taste the Alsace Wine on a sping trip.

Alsace is better known as a winter and Christmas destination, but it is also home of the oldest wine route in France. And this is particularly nice to go there for a spring trip. The little medieval towns are surrounded by vineyards and old castle ruins. The most famous villages like Colmar, Riquewihr, or Eguisheim are in no way inferior in their charms. Of course, a wine tasting is a must during a spring visit to Alsace. All the region’s wineries are suitable for this. However, the smaller family-run wineries are particularly enchanting.

Palermo, Sicily

Cathedral of Palermo

Palermo, the capital of the biggest Italian island, is around 1849 km (1149 miles) south of Gdansk. Which results in warmer temperatures, it is the perfect spot if you are craving for some vitamin D after the dark winter months. The average is around 20-25 degrees Celsius (68-77 degree Fahrenheit). A perfect temperature to explore the island or to take the first ocean dip of the year in the beaches of Mondello.

The architectural highlights include the Palatine Chapel and the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of Monreale. Both showcasing a mix of Norman, Byzantine, and Arab influences and both were built in the 12th century. As in the rest of Europe also the gardens of Palermo starting to bloom and giving the italian city a colerfull touch.
